We already know that Universal has inked a deal with Nintendo to bring attractions to their theme parks. Based on some patents, a Mario Kart ride may be in the works.

A Nintendo-themed area at Universal Parks was announced last year. We know that Japan will create a full-fledged Super Nintendo World. However, we aren’t whether not Universal Orlando or Hollywood will be doing the same thing. So far, details are very minimal. But, some patents are getting our hopes up.

According to Orlando Business Journal, the new patent could be one or two things: a look at a potential Mario Kart ride or a look at the confirmed, under-construction Fast and Furious ride. We’re hoping it’s the former since that Fast and Furious ride at Universal Orlando should be opening this year. Looking at patents for it at this point would just be useless, in our opinion.

The “Amusement Park Ride Tunnel” is what the patent is. There’s a vehicle that sits two people and it seems to be riding down a tunnel. It also seems to be using a projections system, which will send images or projections through the walls in the tunnel.

If we’re being honest, this all sounds great. Creating an actual and physical track for a Mario Kart ride simply wouldn’t work. In reality, it wouldn’t be a Mario Kart ride since they wouldn’t be able to utilize the items. Something like this is what we’re looking for. If they can somehow have up to eight karts at a time, then this could definitely work out.

If this is true, we’re thinking the riders will be able to choose their characters once they sit down. When analyzing the explanations of the projections on the wall, it sounds like a huge screen. Basically, you’re playing Mario Kart on a huge screen and it’s much more interactive than ever. This screen will serve as the track and will visually display everything. It’ll also be the key way to utilize the items. We aren’t sure what the ideas are and maybe we’re just over-exaggerating. It sounds like a challenging task and it’s easy to just talk about it. We’re glad we don’t have a hand in developing it, however.
