4. Anthony Davis vs. Phoenix Suns

Making something that takes an incredible amount of athleticism look easy is just so fun to watch.  Anthony Davis shows off these feats in nearly every game he plays in. Watching him throw down an alley-oop off the backboard on a 7-foot-1 tower like Alex Len is one of the best of those outlandish feats.

While attempting to grade the top five dunks of the season, there were a few criteria that I had in my mind that made one stand out. Dunking on another human being, while simultaneously being fouled, after deftly catching a lobbed pass off the backboard easily fit three of those categories.

Anthony Davis routinely dunks on people. He’s 6-foot-10 with an enormous wing span. He barely has to jump to do so. But sometimes, although rare, a brave soul decides to challenge him at the risk of being on a poster later on. Alex Len is 23-years old, so he still has time to learn when to just take the “L” and move onto the next play. Luckily for us, Dec. 11, 2016 was not one of those days.

Also taken into account on this dunk was the pass off the backboard. When I played basketball as a young lad, I could hit a wide open jumper about 20 percent of the time. So I was, not by choice mind you, a pass-first guard. A great pass to set up a better dunk will always get my attention, and throwing one unnecessarily off the backboard is what “assists” this dunk in cracking the prestigious top five.
