Cameron Rupp

C,

The catcher position is such a premium position in fantasy baseball, and the Philadelphia Phillies have a catcher that can fill up the stat sheet. Cameron Rupp is never going to set the world on fire, but he has the kind of pop that can prove very valuable in a fantasy baseball setting. He is the unquestioned starting catcher for the Phillies, and should be able to get at least 400 at-bats this season.

Rupp had a rough spring, which is likely why he is not owned in a ton of leagues. However, in his 100-plus starts last season, he did hit 16 home runs, which is good production for a catcher. Rupp also drove in over 50 runs for a Phillies team that really struggled to get players on base. If you have a so-so catcher on your roster, you may want to keep your eyes on Rupp as the season goes along.

The Phillies are likely to be bad once again this season, and will probably finish the season near the bottom of the NL East. Still, Rupp is going to get every opportunity to drive in runs, and playing a position that does not carry a fantasy lineup, he is someone you may want to  take a stab at. Rupp hits the ball well to all fields, and once he gets in a groove, he can really carry a team for a week or so.
