The jersey kits of the 2016 World Series champions will feature a temporary third color to their uniforms.
If there was a sixth golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, then the Chicago Cubs would burst out singing. The Cubs, after a six-game road trip to open the 2017-18 season, will finally get the chance to play in Wrigley Field. Tonight also marks the the hoisting of the Cubs’ 2016 World Series banner, a chore that has been in the graveyard since 1908.
Though that will be the most anticipated moment of tonight’s game against the the Los Angeles Dodgers, there’s another part to the festivities: gold jerseys. Aside from the traditional Cubbie blue, the jerseys will also be lined with baseball’s most elegant design, the pinstripe. This special edition jersey isn’t just exclusive to the players, but fans, too, can purchase them…for $200.

This is a smooth move by the apparel company, Majestic. They didn’t go overboard or too light with “spicy mustard gold.” The real ingenuity concerns how the navy blue player/number trim complements the symphony of glittery gold filler. Other than the appeal of the jerseys, the Cubs also plan to market some commemorative products, such as baseball caps that feature a golden pin. The price isn’t as steep as the jersey, but it’ll still cost a buyer around $60.
As for tonight’s game against the Dodgers, it will be the 2,094 meeting between the NL rivals. Of the seven games from last year’s series, the Cubs escapes with a 4-3 record. However, they did lose the last two by an average of one run.

Tonight’s prime time showdown may not fare as so. Alex Wood, starting pitcher for the Dodgers, has only two innings to his resume this year. It’s also been three years, as then-pitcher for the Braves, since Wood has posted some trustworthy statistics. Jon Lester, on the other hand, has registered three more innings of experience this season. In that series against the Cardinals, Lester would allow four runs, but fanned seven. Unfortunately, Lester has his work cut out for him as he will face Joc Pederson and Corey Seager.
