It is all fun and games, especially if you are mascot. But, beware! If the opportunity arises, someone will take revenge. Turn about if fair play, especially when the New York Mets are involved.

Mascots. Can’t live with them, can’t get rid of them. Their antics entertain the crowds at sporting events nationwide. And while there are many well known mascots, one stands out as the most notorious — that being The Phillie Phanatic.

Since 1977, the dumpy, furry, green creature with a tongue that extends a couple feet has tormented players and fans alike. Whether it was dancing provocatively in front of visiting teams, shooting hot dogs from a cannon, or charing umpire Eric Greg, the Phanatic is good at what he does.

But, sometimes a player gets their revenge. Enter the New York Mets’ Noah Syndergaard. Before a game against the Phillies, Syndergaard took advantage of a moment when the Phanatic was distracted. His ATV was unguarded, making it a perfect chance for a joy ride.

Syndergaard is no stranger to mascots. In an interview with TJ Teran of Rising Apple, the Mets’ pitch shared his dislike for mascots.

"I just don’t like mascots in general. They’re sticky, and you never know what’s inside of them."

As a matter of fact, the mascot for his own team is target for Thor’s hammer. The feud between Syndergaard and Mr. Met is reaching legendary status on Twitter. The two are at odds with pictures including this one of Syndergaard’s mom with his nemesis.

But then, Mr. Met did receive this Twitter first.

The rivalry between players and mascots will continue. The next chapter may just be a Battle Royal between The Phanatic and Mr. Met versus Syndergaard. No matter who is on his time, I am picking Syndergaard.
