Andrew Bogut

Center, Cleveland Cavaliers

The winner of the weirdest last 12 months of basketball has to go to Cleveland Cavaliers center Andrew Bogut. What a year it has been for the Australian native. Bogut first suffered a knee injury in the 2016 NBA Finals which largely hurt the Golden State Warriors’ chances at repeating as NBA Champions.

He would recover and then represent this Australian National Team in the 2016 Rio Games. The dorm he stayed at didn’t have a shower curtain, so Bogut made one himself. Australia was good enough to medal in Rio, but ultimately finished in fourth place.

Since Golden State wanted more three-pointers, the Warriors signed Kevin Durant on the 4th of July. To have enough cap space to sign Durant, Golden State had to dump Bogut’s expiring contract to the Dallas Mavericks. Bogut’s tenure in Dallas was short-lived and riddled with injuries.

At the NBA trade deadline, Dallas shipped Bogut to the Philadelphia 76ers for a younger center in Nerlens Noel. Bogut had not intention on playing for the lowly 76ers, expecting to be bought-out. He was and then things got even more sad.

Bogut signed for the veteran minimum to play the rest of 2016-17 for the Cavaliers. Not only two minutes into his Cavaliers debut, Bogut suffered a season-ending leg injury with a thunderous crack. He may win a second NBA Championship with the 2016-17 Cavaliers, but he will do so riding pine in street clothes.
