The West Virginia Mountaineers should be a real threat in the Big 12 this season. When will they hold their annual Gold-Blue spring game this April?
2016 was a solid season for the West Virginia Mountaineers football program. The Mountaineers went 10-3 (7-2) last year to finish No. 18 in the final AP Top 25 Poll. West Virginia’s only losses were to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in Big 12 play and the Miami Hurricanes in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
While the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys look to be the favorites to win the 2017 Big 12 Championship, let’s not overlook the Mountaineers for their shot to win the Big 12 and make the College Football Playoff.
Head coach Dana Holgorsen has his team right in the mix to do something special in Morgantown this season. It all begins with the annual Gold-Blue spring game this April. So when is the Mountaineer’s highly anticipated intra-squad scrimmage?
The Gold-Blue spring game will be on Saturday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m. Et at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown. It’s $10 to watch the Mountaineers compete amongst each other on Saturday. The spring game will be televised locally in the Appalachian region.
2017 could be a huge year for the Mountaineers. While former staring quarterback Skyler Howard has exhausted his eligibility last fall, the reigns to the Holgorsen Air Raid presumably belong to former Florida Gators quarterback Will Grier.
Grier was arguably the most promising passing prospect Florida landed since frankly Tim Tebow. He showed more promise in Gainesville than Jeff Driskel ever did. After sitting out 2016 because of transferring, look for Grier to lead West Virginia to big things in 2017.

West Virginia has a big non-conference game opening weekend against regional rival Virginia Tech at FedEx Field. While the Mountaineers get Oklahoma State at home this fall, they will have to end the year on the road in Norman against the Sooners.
