Capitals vs. Maple Leafs live stream, Game 1: TV schedule, online and more
Here’s how you can watch Game 1 of the first round series between the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Washington Capitals begin the march to their first Stanley Cup on Thursday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. ET. At the Verizon Center, the Caps will host the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs, the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.
Washington is led by star forwards Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. For the first time since the 2011-12 season, the former didn’t lead the NHL in goals. Despite this, Ovechkin still had a 33-goal season, his 12th consecutive season with at least 30 goals. Backstrom finished second in the league in assists with 63 and fourth in the league in points with 86.
Braden Holtby had a fantastic season as well. He’s tied for the NHL lead in wins with 42 and his nine shutouts are the most. The Caps defense has made his job easier. Between Holtby and their strong blue line, no team allowed fewer goals this season than Washington.
Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs are led by an impressive trio of rookies. Auston Matthews leads all rookies in goals with 40. He’s the first American born rookie to reach the plateau. Mitch Marner and William Nylander each had over 60 points, giving Toronto three rookies with at least 60 points.
The Caps enter the series as the clear favorites. However, the Maple Leafs have the weapons to at least challenge the President Trophy winners.
