Who does Charlize Theron play in The Fate of the Furious? We tell you who Theron portrays in the latest installment of the Fast & Furious movie franchise.

Charlize Theron joins the Fast & Furious movie franchise in The Fate of the Furious, but who is the Academy Award winner playing in the latest installment of the action series?

In The Fate of the Furious, Theron is the movie’s primary villain. She portrays Cipher, an enigmatic hacker (is there any other kind in films?) who blackmails Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) into working for her. Cipher has some very damaging information on Dom, so he feels as if he has no choice but to carry out her evil plan and undermine his family.

It’s the latest in a series of bigger and more outlandish roles for the critically acclaimed actress. Last year she once again portrayed Queen Ravenna, the evil stepmother of Snow White, in the sequel The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Film audiences may also recognize her from playing the ferocious Imperator Furiosa in the Mad Max reboot Mad Max: Fury Road.

Her casting as Cipher in The Fate of the Furious reunited Charlize Theron with director F. Gary Gray. Gray previously directed Theron in the 2003 remake of The Italian Job, in which she co-starred as Stella Bridger, safecracker, daughter of John Bridger (Donald Sutherland) and love interest for Charlie Croker (Mark Wahlberg).

But in that movie Theron was one of the good guys, and in this film Cipher most certainly is not. How will Charlize Theron’s portrayal of the super-hacker compare to past Fast & Furious villains like Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) and his brother Deckard (Jason Statham, who also appears in The Fate of the Furious as a bad guy gone somewhat good)?

Fans will have to see how the former Aeon Flux star does in her antagonistic role. You can watch Charlize Theron as Cipher when The Fate of the Furious releases on Thursday, April 13 followed by its formal premiere on Friday, April 14.
