Who does Helen Mirren play in The Fate of the Furious? We let you know who one of Britain’s favorite actresses is playing in the latest Fast & Furious film.

Fans might be surprised to find Helen Mirren in The Fate of the Furious. She’s only one of Britain’s best known and most beloved actresses, and not somebody you’d expect to see in a Hollywood action movie. So who is Mirren playing in the latest Fast & Furious flick?

Helen Mirren portrays Magdelene Shaw, the mother of Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) and his now deceased brother Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). It’s not clear how Magdelene factors into the plot of The Fate of the Furious, but you have to admit that Helen Mirren playing Jason Statham’s mom is a little bit of casting genius.

Mirren is totally believable as Statham’s mother; the two of them share the same sharp wit and ability to scene-steal with just a look, and having them in scenes together is just awesome to even think about. Helen Mirren might be the only person whom the audience would buy putting Jason Statham in his place.

And her appearance in The Fate of the Furious isn’t as alien as you might think. Mirren tried her hand at action heroism in the adventure flicks Red and Red 2 — and Red 3 has been rumored since 2013.

She also portrayed Aaron Paul’s hardened military boss in the drone drama Eye in the Sky in 2015. And while it’s not an action-dominated role, Helen Mirren will forever be known for playing one of TV’s toughest ladies, Jane Tennison in the British crime drama series Prime Suspect.
