Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes is reportedly visiting with the quarterback needy New York Jets, according to sources.

According to a source close to Adam Schefter, Mahomes is visiting with the Jets on Wednesday as they continue their attempts to address their quarterback situation.

The Jets hold the sixth-overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and they possess a lot of needs. The quarterback position is one that stands out the most, as their offense last season ranked among the worst in points, and passing yards per game per NFL.com.

The Jets shuffled through multiple quarterbacks last season, and not one was very successful as the team finished with a 5-11 record. Mahomes is a very intriguing prospect who proved he could potentially be a NFL starter during his senior season at Texas Tech. Mahomes passed for 41 touchdowns last season for the Red Raiders, and over 5,000 passing yards.

Many teams have been evaluating him over the last few weeks, as he is believed to have a skill set that could transition well to today’s NFL game. Mahoems needs help to develop into a starter, specifically in regards to his footwork and terminology, but that can happen with the right coaching staff.

The Jets could use help all over their team at this point, as they did not do much during free agency other then release, or opt not to re-sign some veterans. The quarterback position wasn’t as strong in free agency as it has been in recent seasons, so they are depending on the draft to find their quarterback of the future.

Although there is always no guarantee college success will translate to the NFL, Mahomes has the look of a future NFL starter.
