Bartra reportedly received surgery on his right arm last night after the BVB bus was hit with three explosions while en route to Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday. Dortmund released an official statement earlier on Wednesday confirming that the Spanish international is doing well after the operation.
The statement also mentions that Bartra will likely be out of action for several weeks as his arm heals.
The 26-year-old center-back has made 25 appearances for BVB this year, scoring one goal in his first season in the Bundesliga after transferring from Barcelona.
Bartra has made a significant impact in the Dortmund team this season, despite a difficult season that has them fourth in the Bundesliga and 18 points behind first-place Bayern Munich.
Dortmund were scheduled to play French side AS Monaco on Tuesday for the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal, which was postponed to Wednesday night after the attack.
Germany’s Office of the Attorney General is investigating the incident, as prosecutors found a letter near the scene giving some information about those behind the attack. Police have apparently detained a suspect.
After Tuesday’s game was postponed, Dortmund reached out on Twitter to help Monaco’s away supporters find overnight accommodation with the hashtag #bedforawayfans. In the stadium before the match was cancelled, the away section was heard chanting the word Dortmund in a show of support for the home side.
