2. How Tom Herman commands the game

While pushing the right buttons and getting his players to like him is one thing, how Herman commands and calls a game is another. We’ve seen the work he was able to do with the Houston Cougars and the way he was able to have them believing in themselves.

At Houston, Herman was able to coach his team to signature wins over the Florida State Seminoles and Oklahoma Sooners. Beating the latter should already have him in the good graces of the Texas football.

With a new squad and the Orange-White game on tap, Herman will get his first chance to really show his play-calling with his new roster. It’s going to be an adjustment for him too as he continues to gauge his new players.

Will he be more hands on or will he be a little laid back and let it all unfold? The spring game should be a good preview of how Herman plans to approach things from the sideline. Things will certainly be different come the fall but there will be plenty of indicators Saturday.
