Lyon entered the Europa League in the round of 32 and have been scoring with ease ever since. In four games thus far, Lyon have scored 16 goals, and look to keep up the incredible rate against Besiktas. In their previous matches in the Europa League, Lyon beat AZ Alkmaar 11-2 over two legs. Next up were Roma, who lost on aggregate 5-4. Lyon jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in the first match at home and just held on in the reverse fixture to advance to their first quarterfinal appearance in the Europa League since 2013-14. They are, however, coming into this match on the back of a 4-1 loss to Lorient in Ligue 1 on Saturday.
Besiktas have also been scoring at a high rate in the knockout rounds, putting 10 past their opposition in the last four matches. After dispatching Hapoel Be’er Sheva of the Israeli Premier League 5-2 on aggregate, they took on Olympiacos in the round of 16. After an away draw, Besiktas easily took care of business on the reverse fixture by winning 4-1. Now, they are determined to get a positive result in the away fixture that would help them reach the semifinals for the first time in the club’s history.
