3. Just get out of the West

Even if the Clippers are playing their best basketball right now, they still have to go through an absolutely brutal trial to reach the NBA championship. Their first round matchup against the Jazz is no gimme, and they’ll likely have to get past the Warriors in round two with a Conference Finals against the Spurs or Rockets. This all seems pretty daunting, but this terrible trip through hell is also the Clippers’ greatest advantage. Simply getting through the West might be enough to win the title.

Think about it, if the Clippers get past the Jazz in round one that’s one thing, but if they can beat the Warriors in round two then they clearly have the ability to win it all. A Conference Finals victory over either of the Rockets or Spurs further proves this. No matter who they take on in the Finals, even the always dangerous LeBron James, should be nothing compared to the hell they just went through. Confidence would be at an all-time high due to playing their best basketball and knocking off so many great teams.

None of this is to say winning the West is winning the NBA title. As the Warriors can say from last season, it’s not over until the confetti is falling down and four wins have been tallied up. However, if the Clippers are good enough to win their way through the West then they are good enough to beat anybody in the NBA. They just need to get past the second round to prove it.
