Noah Syndergaard and Edinson Volquez hook up tonight for the second time in less than a week, and if the first matchup was any indication, the under looks like a quality play.

Coming off a 1-1 wash yesterday, as while Gonzalez vs Tomlin Over 8 won easily, we suffered yet another defeat on the potential final batter of the game, causing Darvish vs Nolasco Under 8 to go from a push to a loss on Danny Espinosa’s crushing bottom-of-the-ninth homer. Nonetheless, we have a good over/under bet on tap for this evening.

Noah Syndergaard vs Edinson Volquez

UNDER 7.5 (-110) (via OddsShark)

It’ll be a rematch from this past week’s ESPN Sunday Night Baseball telecast when Noah Syndergaard toes the rubber opposite Edinson Volquez for the second time in six days, except this meeting will be emanating from Marlins Park.

When the two hurlers met at Citi Field, it was Syndergaard who prevailed 5-2 after the big right-hander held the Marlins bats in check, limiting the Fish to two runs (one earned) over seven impressive innings, registering nine strikeouts with zero walks while scattering five hits.

There’s every reason to believe Thor can keep it going, as he dominated Miami in the same manner last year over three starts, holding them to a 1.80 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 20 innings, en route to going 2-0 in those assignments. In his first two starts of 2017 — both of which he’s won — Syndergaard has a 0.69 ERA and 0.77 WHIP, to go with 16 strikeouts versus zero walks. In other words, he’s been as sharp as usual thus far.

Volquez wasn’t as stingy in the Sunday Night affair, allowing four runs in six frames, but he did manage to punch out six compared to just one walk. And prior to that, he blanked the Nationals over five impressive innings on Opening Day, so there is plenty of hope that he can provide us with a desirable outing this evening.

In addition to all of this, we should also feel good about certain key bats being out of the lineup. After a wild 16-inning contest last night, there will be no Yoenis Cespedes or Giancarlo Stanton, not to mention the hero from the series opener, Travis d’Arnaud, who put together his first career four-hit effort. Rene Rivera will start in his place, and that could be very beneficiary for the under. Taking that in mind as well, the under looks like a nice play here.
