Penguins vs. Blue Jackets live stream, Game 2: TV schedule, online and more
The Pittsburgh Penguins will try to take a 2-0 series lead over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday.
Game 1 of the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs didn’t start out well for the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the first period against the Columbus Blue Jackets, they got outshot and outplayed. However, thanks to a fury of second period goals by Bryan Rust, Phil Kessel and Nick Bonino, Pittsburgh won 3-1. They did this despite losing starting goaltender Matt Murray in warmups. Backup Marc-Andre Fleury was phenomenal in relief, stopping all but one of the 32 shots he saw.
Pittsburgh started slow, but found their game in the second and third periods. Their skill and speed proved to be too much for the heavy hitting Blue Jackets. The Pens have a lot of confidence going into Game 2, though it remains to be seen if Murray will start. But if he doesn’t, Fleury should be good to go.
Columbus must regroup and have a better 60 minute effort in Game 2 if they hope to bring the series home without a 2-0 series deficit. Only Matt Calvert’s third period goal stopped them from being shut out. Cam Atkinson and Brandon Saad were virtually invisible, combining for just two shots on goal. Captain Nick Foligno finished with a -2 plus minus rating and two shots on goal. Zach Werenski led the team with six shots.
