Dion Phaneuf completes Senators Game 2 comeback with overtime goal (Video)
The Senators completed their Game 2 comeback thanks to an overtime goal from Dion Phaneuf.
The Boston Bruins looked like they were going to win Game 2. However, in the second period, they took the worst lead possible in sports. That’s right, the Bruins mistakenly took the dreaded 3-1 lead.
This lead has claimed numerous victims over the past two years, including the Cleveland Indians and Golden State Warriors. Add the Bruins to the list after the Ottawa Senators’ comeback was completed by Dion Phaneuf in overtime.
Phaneuf gets a well deserved game-winning goal. He was a big part of their comeback. Erik Karlsson gets an ungodly assist. The Senators captain was the best player on either team. This is incredible because Karlsson is playing with a foot injury.
It’s an emotional win for Ottawa. First of all, Clarke MacArthur scored his first goal in nearly two years. He’s fought his butt off to come back from concussion issues. Many thought he was heading towards retirement, but he came back this season. However, the Bruins immediately turned the tables with a shorthanded goal. Another goal gave Boston a 3-1 lead.
In the third period, Ottawa finally started to get some bounces to go their way. Karlsson set up teammate Derrick Brassard for the game tying goal just seven minutes into the third period. Bruins captain Zdeno Chara committed an unfortunate delay of game penalty going into overtime.
