Allen Robinson says he ‘earned’ contract extension

Jaguars wide receiver Allen Robinson says he has “earned” a contract extension.
According to Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union Jaguars wide receiver Allen Robinson believes that he has earned a contract extension in his 3 seasons in Jacksonville. To this point the Jaguars have been holding off on signing Robinson to an extension.
Robinson had a disappointing 2016 season only racking up 833 receiving yards while playing all 16 games. While those numbers aren’t terrible, they are nothing compared to his numbers from the 2015 season where he accumulated 1400 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. Robinson’s breakout season in 2015 is what he is banking on to make him his money when his contract is up.
Robinson is steadfast in his belief that the tide is going to shift back in a positive direction in 2017.
“The most frustrating part of [last] year was that I was an improved player coming in. I was a better route runner, I thought I was creating more separation.” Robinson said. “Even though the outcome wasn’t there, I knew that…Now it’s coming in as an even more improved player and having that strain. We have to do it every day and every game.”
The young receiving core of the Jacksonville Jaguars is the strength of their team. However, you do not win football games because you have a good receiving core. The success of the Jaguars starts and ends with the development of Blake Bortles. If Bortles can develop into the quarterback that the front office thought that they were getting, the Jaguars will be alright. Especially with all of the young talent that they have accumulated on the defensive side of the ball. The issue is that Bortles has had problems during his career with turning the ball over especially in situations where the team could not afford it.

Signing Robinson isn’t going to make the Jaguars a AFC South contender overnight however he is an integral piece to a young receiving core in Jacksonville.
