Manchester United face Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday, April 16. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Manchester United have had a rough couple of seasons after the retirement of Sir Alex Furguson, as many had predicted. David Moyes and Louis van Gaal weren’t able to keep them in the Champions League for consecutive seasons. Despite having a near unlimited source of transfer funds, United have struggled over the past few years to put together a competent, cohesive squad.
This year, they have spent more time in sixth place than they have in any other position in the league. Even after spending a record fee on Paul Pogba, United still have many of the same problems as they have before. Jose Mourinho needs to dial into his bus-parking ways to conjure a result out of this match. The rest of their schedule is brutal down the stretch, with matches against Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham.
Chelsea, ever since the 3-0 drubbing against Arsenal earlier in the season (yes, believe me, that was this season), have been utterly dominant in nearly every phase of the game since switching to Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system. Chelsea have been remarkably consistent after that debacle, which shows that it’s not how a team starts, it’s how they finish. Aside from a confusing loss to Crystal Palace on the first day of April, Chelsea haven’t lost since January.
This match against Manchester United is their toughest test left in the season. Their only matches against teams in the top half are Everton, Southampton and West Brom, so a result from this clash would likely see them through to the title.
The Premier League match between Manchester United and Chelsea will be broadcast live on NBCSN. Live streaming is available on NBCSports, which you can access with your cable or satellite subscriptions, either online or through the NBC Sports app.
