Although the NFL regular season schedule won’t be released until this week, some details have been leaked.

On this Easter Sunday, it seems as though NFL fans have received an early gift. According to the Boston Globe, it is likely that when the schedule is released later this week, the New England Patriots will be matched up with Kansas City on opening night. The defending Super Bowl champion always opens up the season with a home, Thursday night contest. Many speculated that Atlanta could be the team the Pats face on opening night, creating an exciting Super Bowl rematch. However, due to recent reports, that seems unlikely. The NFL likes to get a quality opponent to match up against the champions on opening night, and Kansas City would be just that. Since Andy Reid’s arrival in 2013, the Chiefs have placed themselves among the top of the AFC conference.

There is also so more NFL schedule scuttlebutt floating around. With a brand new stadium to show off to the nation, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe also claims that the Atlanta Falcons will host the first Sunday night game of 2017. Of course, nothing can be official until the schedule is out, but usually early indicators like this are accurate. With the schedule release and NFL Draft around the corner, fans can rejoice in the upcoming weeks. It is amazing how much excitement can be built off of a schedule going public, but that is the phenomenon of the National Football League.

If Volin turns out to be correct, then we are in for some entertaining primetime games to kick off 2017. We will get to see both Atlanta and New England play quality foes under the lights. One will take the field with pride and a smile, while the other launches a new campaign to get back to the promise land.
