20. Robert Horry saves San Antonio Spurs versus Detroit Pistons: 2005 NBA Finals, Game 5

It’s been over a decade. We to be reminded of three things: 1.) The Detroit Pistons were an outstanding basketball team in the mid-2000s. 2.) Manu Ginobili used to have long hair. 3.) Robert Horry plays his best ball in the NBA Playoffs.

Horry won seven NBA Finals in his long NBA career: two with the Houston Rockets, three with the Los Angeles Lakers and two with the San Antonio Spurs. He had already left an indelible mark on the story of the NBA Playoffs with a shot that the Sacramento Kings are still recovering from way back in 2002.

Three years later, Horry did it again, this time in the 2005 NBA Finals. Horry was a rotational big for most of his career. His ability to make to make threes as a stretch-five prototype made his a playoff legend. Ginobili would whip this ball to Horry for the game-winning three in Game 5.

Detroit power forward Rasheed Wallace opted to double-team Ginobili in the left corner instead of sticking to his man Horry like he should have. Just because he didn’t play for the 2002 Kings doesn’t mean Wallace should have been unaware of Horry’s ability to thrive in winning time.

This was the second time that an all-time shot in the NBA Playoffs went off on Wallace. The Memorial Day Miracle in San Antonio and this. Horry had one more big moment in the twilight of his career. He sure saved it for a great time against a great team in the 2005 Pistons.
