Carmelo and La La Anthony separated. Melo to leave New York?
Carmelo and La La Anthony have separated, according to TMZ Sports. After Phil Jackson’s bash against Carmelo, does he have any reason to stay in New York?
TMZ reported Monday that Carmelo and La La Anthony are separated. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re getting divorced, but in the entertainment world, it’s as good a sign as any. With rumors swirling about Carmelo’s time ending with the Knicks, could separating from La La push Anthony out of New York for good?
Carmelo has a no-trade clause in his contract, and many believe he would veto trades to certain teams because of family. That family includes La La Anthony. Now that Carmelo and La La are reportedly separated, would Carmelo relax his geographical requirements? Even after Phil Jackson’s comments led to the NBA Player Association to step in, does Carmelo even want to stay in New York at this point?
Carmelo has exactly zero playoff appearances since Phil Jackson took over the reins in 2014, and the Knicks are 80-166. Prior to Phil’s arrival, Carmelo was 126-101 with three playoff appearances for New York. Now that Caremlo’s entire New York state of mind is crumbling, where will he go?

Carmelo was rumored to be moving to the Cavs, Clippers or Lakers in the middle of the 2016-17 season, all locations that could pop up again as potential trade destinations this summer. The Cavaliers may look to add Anthony to entice LeBron James to stay if they don’t win a second consecutive NBA title. The Clippers have been the Clippers in their big-three era, going to zero finals. The Lakers need star power to rebuild.
With Carmelo considering waiving his no-trade clause this season, there’s no doubt that he’ll be more willing to waive it now. Expect Carmelo Anthony to be on the move this summer.
