Corey Perry scores the overtime winner to give the Anaheim Ducks a 3-0 series lead over the Calgary Flames.

The Anaheim Ducks trailed the Calgary Flames 4-1 less than half way into the second period. However, the Ducks found a way to come back and eventually win in overtime, thanks to a lucky Corey Perry goal.

After allowing four goals on 16 shots, the Ducks pulled starter John Gibson, replacing him with Jonathan Bernier, who stopped all 16 shots he faced. Defenseman Shea Theodore scored two goals and Nate Thompson added another on a questionable non-call on a high stick to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, it took the Ducks just 90 seconds to pull off the franchise’s biggest playoff comeback in team history. Thompson was able to maintain possession of the puck despite a strong backcheck by Sean Monahan.

The Ducks’ center passed the puck to winger Rickard Rakell who passed back to Thompson. Thompson fired a backhand that misses the target and curled around the boards. Perry was able to win a race to the puck and sent it to Rakell in the corner. Rakell returned the pass to Perry along the boards. Perry fired the puck at Flames goalie Brian Elliott who made the easy save, but the rebound bounced up and off of Calgary defenseman Michael Stone, and into the net.

Calgary now joins the Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets as teams all down 3-0 in their playoff series. Only four teams in NHL history have come back after trailing a series by three games. However, one of those teams could become the fifth team to come back to win their series.
