The Sixers announced small forward Robert Covington underwent successful arthroscopic knee surgery and he’s expected to make a quick recovery.

Over the past couple of seasons, the Philadelphia 76ers have become accustomed to rather disappointing news from their medical team. Yet as of late, things appear to finally be heading in the right direction.

Following positive results of Ben Simmons’ latest CT scan on his foot and Joel Embiid’s successful knee surgery, the good news continued earlier today. The Sixers announced that small forward Robert Covington underwent successful arthroscopic knee surgery in a statement issued by the team.

Covington is one of the more underrated players in the NBA and he played a key role for the Sixers this past season. Heading into the final year of his contract, which is a team option that will likely be picked up by the Sixers, the 2017-18 season will be a key moment for Covington.

Luckily for both him and the Sixers, it looks like Covington will recover rather quickly following his surgery. According to the team’s statement, the 6-foot-9 forward is “expected to transition back to full weight-bearing in approximately two weeks.”

Over the past couple of seasons, some have joked that the real problem with the Sixers’ organization wasn’t former general manager Sam Hinkie, it was the medical staff. Yet it finally looks like the days of disappointing medical updates are coming to an end.
