Miami Marlins center fielder Christian Yelich made an incredible catch to rob Mariners’ outfielder Jarrod Dyson of extra bases during Wednesday’s game.
Christian Yelich of the Marlins won a Gold Glove for his superb defense during the 2014 season, but he may be on his way to another one this season if he continues to make catches like this:
Dyson hit a high fly ball to center field that was almost surely going to allow him to get extra bases with his speed, but Yelich had other plans for Dyson. He raced down the line and made a leaping catch, then crashed into the outfield wall and took a hard fall.
Yelich quickly jumped back up although he seemed a bit shaken up from the crash, but he ultimately deemed himself fine enough to stay in the game. Yelich has been known as a contact hitter for most of his career, but he made major strides last season and proved he had some power to his game. He hit a career high 21 home runs last season, combined with 98 RBI. Those numbers, along with a remarkable .298 batting average, led him to win his first Silver Slugger award of his young career.

Yelich followed up his tremendous season last year by playing in the World Baseball Classic this past March, where he helped team USA capture it’s first title in the tournament. In the tournament, Yelich hit for a .310 average, and scored seven runs in the eight games he played in. Yelich is a supremely talented and young baseball player, and the best seems yet to come for him as he is only 25 years old and entering his prime. Marlins fans all over have to be thrilled.
