The Anaheim Ducks face the Calgary Flames in Game 4 of their NHL playoff series at Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday, April 19.

After losing in Game 3 of overtime in 90 seconds, the Calgary Flames now face elimination. The Flames were able to chase Anaheim Ducks starting goalie John Gibson with four goals on 16 shots, but the Ducks came back. Anaheim scored three goals to force overtime and won it on a lucky Corey Perry goal that bounced off of Calgary’s Michel Stone and into the net.

If the Flames have any chance of surviving they need significantly better play in net. Brian Elliott predictably has not been good for Calgary. Elliott has allowed 11 goals in three games and has just an .886 save percentage.

Without an injury to Cam Fowler late in the season, Shea Theodore may not be in the lineup. The former first-round pick has split his season between Anaheim and the AHL. Given the opportunity, Theodore has been great for the Ducks and maybe their best defenseman this series.

The Flames, Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets all lost the first three games of their playoff series. In NHL history only four teams have come back to win after losing the first three games. Given Calgary’s current situation, it may be time for the city to shift its focus from the Flames to the Canadian Football League’s Stampeders.
