Social media is a wondrous, well-oiled machine when used for good. And there’s no greater good than three NBA legends — and Patty Mills — combining forces to chat hoops with a quality cup of coffee.

Boris Diaw, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Mills have all played for the Spurs, and though Diaw is now with the Jazz, the camaraderie is immediately easy to spot. A non-NBA fan could watch this video one time and know these four have an innate connection.

Diaw’s love for coffee has been chronicled many times, so it’s no surprise he’s the one asking the fellas if they want some espresso at the genesis of the video. These four gents talking NBA hoops candidly should be dubbed “The Bantering Brothers” and my only emotion after viewing this video was anger because it wasn’t near long enough.

Let’s get a couple of quick observations out of the way. Ginobili is a damn liar. He shoots his coffee like a shot of tequila, says he doesn’t want anymore and low and behold the clip skips forward and he has more coffee. Make up your damn mind, Manu.

Second, Parker looks the opposite of thrilled to be in this conversation and please focus on what he says throughout the banter. He speaks maybe 15 words and every single one of them is riddled in shade! Every one! Parker is Mr. Me Too at parties, there’s no doubt about it. Someone else is having fun and talking about good ass times and Parker ruin their parade with slight shade, garnering awkward faces from everyone.

Mills is the realist of the group. He rips Diaw early, brings him back to Earth on the Clipper talk and then praises him for his best game of the season against the Spurs. How can anyone dislike Mills? Tell me! His Australian accent makes normal sentences sound like sonnets and he shoots deep 3s with the confidence of Phillip Seymour-Hoffman in Along Came Polly — rain dance!

Diaw seems to steal the show, but I just cannot get past the shots Parker takes throughout this mini conversation and it makes me love him even more now. Bitterness is an emotion best served hot.

Highlights:

  • Diaw mentions he does not like playing against the Grizzlies because Z-Bo breaks his back and Mills promptly calls him soft. Leave it to Mills to put the host in his place.
  • Ginobili drops some knowledge about this being the first time the Gasols (Pau and Marc) will be facing each other in the playoffs and Diaw reveals he forgot Pau played with San Antonio.
  • Diaw drops the “The Clippers aren’t as dangerous as before” with a smirk like, “GTFOH, they ain’t beating us.” AGAIN, Mills to the rescue to mention the Clippers looked pretty damn good beating the Spurs a few nights back. Ginobili says “they kicked our asses.” Again, he is a damn liar because the Spurs lost 87-98 in that game. Don’t trust, Ginobili.
  • Diaw asks the group if Golden State is better with Kevin Durant and we get the first peak at Parker’s internal battle to give credit. Parker says “eh, different…” initially and then after some back and forth faces Ginobili and says “Yeah, but it will be different in the playoffs.”
  • MANU GINOBILI CALLS BORIS DIAW BOBO.
  • Mills tries to throw Diaw some credit mentioning his big game against the Spurs. He played 19 minutes in that game and scored 19 points on 9-of-9 shooting. The Spurs won 109-103, however. Parker strikes again with “And then the next game he scored ZERO”.
  • That convo continues as Ginobili asks if that was Diaw’s season high. Diaw responds with a “yeah” and tells us Parker asked him if it was his career high. The shade never stops with this man.

Videos like this have to surface more often because, although too brief, this was a joyous four minutes of my day.

I also learned some valuable lessons — never trust Ginobili, Diaw has a crappy memory, Mills likes to bust balls (but also give credit) and Parker is the Michael Jordan of pettiness and I simply cannot get enough of it.
