Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Jarvis Landry might not get an extension done any time soon.
The Miami Dolphins roster is littered with offensive skill players. Guys like Kenny Stills, Jay Ajayi, Kenyan Drake, DeVante Parker and most-importantly, Jarvis Landry. There’s no shortage of talent on the offensive side of the ball.
The Dolphins jump started their offseason handing Stills a big contract extension worth up to $32 million. Many assumed they’d let the receiver cash in on the free agent market, especially with their best receiver in Landry getting ready to enter the final year of his deal.
That wasn’t the case and now according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the team hasn’t opened up serious extension talks with Landry or have given him any indication they plan on doing so in the near future.
Jackson did state that even though there hasn’t been any meaningful talks of an extension, Landry is handling the situation “very maturely and has no intention of holding out.”
Jackson also noted that Landry and Dolphins head coach Adam Gase have developed a “very good bond” and that Gase has made it known how much the team values the receiver.
Landry was the Dolphins second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He’s developed into one of the top wide receivers in the NFL. Landry is scheduled to join a free agent class with the likes of DeAndre Hopkins, Alshon Jeffery, Allen Robinson and Terrelle Pryor.
The Dolphins seem willing to wait on extension talks and maybe approach the subject at a later date with Landry’s agents.
There was speculation that the Dolphins received a couple calls about possibly trading Landry, but Miami isn’t looking to move him.
