Once one of the elite tight ends in the NFL, Aaron Hernandez is now dead, after hanging himself in his prison cell on Wednesday morning.
A troubled star at the University of Florida, Aaron Hernandez was given a chance by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft to turn his life around in the NFL. Hernandez blew that chance, murdering former semi-pro player Odin Lloyd in cold blood, earning himself a life sentence without the possibility of parole. On Wednesday, Hernandez ended his jail sentence by hanging himself in his prison cell, ending one of the more disturbing stories in NFL history.
His former team, the New England Patriots, were also in the news Wednesday, but for a much different reason. The Pats, who won Super Bowl LI in February, made the trip to the White House, presenting President Donald Trump with a jersey and helmet. Noticibly absent was star quarterback Tom Brady, a friend of Trump, and the main reason why the Pats were back at the White House for the fifth time in his career.
Staying in the AFC, it looks like Brock Osweiler is going to get another chance to be a starting quarterback next season. The Cleveland Browns intend to give him the opportunity to win the starting job, and have no plans to bring in another veteran quarterback. Cleveland hold two of the first 12 picks in next week’s NFL Draft, and some believe they will use one of those picks to bring in their latest franchise quarterback.
From one former Houston Texan to another, the team signed former star wide receiver Andre Johnson to a one-day deal, allowing him to retire as a member of the organization. While Osweiler failed during his one season in Houston, Johnson was the best player in franchise history, and still is the team’s all-time leading receiver (13,597). The seven-time Pro Bowler is likely headed to the Hall of Fame, and it was a class move by the organization to allow him to retire as a Texan.

Finally, it looks like America is going to be seeing a lot more of Jameis Winston. The former first overall pick, and his teammates, will be the next team featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have done a lot to improve their team this offseason, bringing in players like DeSean Jackson and Chris Baker. Winston and company are at the front door of being a playoff team, and it will be interesting to see their team come together on TV this preseason.
