Schalke face Ajax at the Veltins-Arena on Thursday, April 20. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Ajax took care of business in Amsterdam in the first leg of their Europa League quarterfinal tie against Schalke, and will head to Gelsenkirchen with a 2-0 lead. Schalke will need to be much better in the second leg if they have any hope of advancing to the semifinals of the Europa League.
In the first leg, reigning Dutch player of the year Davy Klaassen scored both goals for Ajax. Klaassen scored from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute and sealed the game in the 52nd minute with his second goal on the night.
In the second leg, Klaassen will continue to be Ajax’s focal point in the midfield. Klaassen has been one of the best players in the Eredivisie this season and could be in line for a summer transfer to a much bigger club.
Schalke have been one of the more disappointing teams in the Bundesliga this season. The Royal Blues sit in the middle of the Bundesliga table. Guido Burgstaller has been one of the Bundesliga’s best winter buys. Schalke purchased the Austrian striker from second division club, Nurnberg. In 16 games, Burgstaller has eight goals for Schalke. The Royal Blues will need the hot play of Burgstaller to continue if they are going to advance.
