A new gameplay trailer for The Surge highlights the combat. In reality, it looks like a futuristic Dark Souls with more factors and intense action sequences.
With how stacked the gaming scene in 2017 has been so far and the variety of games to look forward to, The Surge may be flying under the radar. The new trailer does a great job at making this game stand out, though. Based on the new combat gameplay footage, we’re getting plenty of Dark Souls vibes. That means that it’s going to be very challenging, but also very fun and rewarding.
Developed by Deck13 Interactive, The Surge is described as a sci-fi action role playing game. The developer themselves say that it’s mostly inspired by the Dark Souls series, but that’s immediately evident once watching the trailer. The similarities are most definitely there, but this is a different beast altogether.
In The Surge, players utilize an exoskeleton as a means of combat. At the start of the game, this exoskeleton may not be as strong as it could be. However, throughout the course of the game, you can upgrade it with a handful of customization options. There are a variety of combinations to use when it comes to fighting, but there are other things that stand out. For example, finishing moves and jumping/ dodging attacks are all things you can point out in the trailer.

The game also seems to have an interesting premise. Taking place in a dystopian future, mankind has exhausted the resources the world has to offer. Ultimately, this led to the downfall of services and many diseases. The developers say that the story takes inspiration from what our future can look like, especially with how fast technology is advancing.
So far, everything we’ve seen about The Surge looks extremely promising. We can’t wait to try it out on May 16, 2017.
