5 biggest disappointments of 2016-2017 playoffs so far
3. Paul George’s supporting cast
The Pacers weren’t going to be included before their stunning and inexplicable loss to the Cavaliers at home in Game 3. For a team that refused to trade Paul George at the deadline because they thought they had something special around him, they sure did not help their case on Thursday night. The Cavs, down 25 at one point, came all the way back and beat the Pacers for a 3-0 series lead. George was incredible, the Cavaliers have no answer for him.
In three games, George is averaging 32.3 points per game with 9.3 rebounds and 7.7 assists. He’s also shooting 45.5 percent from 3-point range. He is a sight to behold. The rest of the team, not so great. The Pacers have been using an eight-man rotation. So, the other seven players, not good.
Myles Turner, the supposed cornerstone to keep George around, is shooting 32.4 percent from the field. He’s averaging 2.3 steals and 1.7 blocks, but that field goal percentage makes him worthless on offense. He’s also shooting an o-fer on 3-pointers. Jeff Teague is trying his best to be a difference maker, with 17 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals per game on a 49/57/87 slash line. Stephenson has shown some life, but only in limited spurts. The rest of the supporting cast, Monta Ellis, C.J. Miles, and Thaddeus Young, have been middling at best. It’s disappointing for George, and the outcome of Game 3 might send him to a new team next year (hello Boston?).
