Brock Forsey, Boise State Broncos

Boise State has had quite a few talented tailbacks in its history, but the vast majority of the Broncos best running backs came from out of state. Ian Johnson, the all-time leader in rushing yards at the school, Doug Martin, and recent star Jeremy McNichols, were all born in California. Jay Ajayi was born in London, England of all places, and went to high school in Texas.

However, all-purpose performer Brock Forsey, who ranks second behind Johnson on the all-time rushing list with 4,045 career rushing yards, was born in Meridian. Forsey surpassed 1,000 rushing yards twice in his Boise State career, including 1,611 yards as a senior in 2002, which led the WAC and ranked among the top 10 in the country. He scored 26 touchdowns on the ground, which also led the league and ranked second nationally.

A terrific receiver out of the backfield, Forsey caught 101 passes for 1,175 yards and 18 TDs in four seasons at Boise State. Forsey was also a kick returner all four years. His 68 total touchdowns from scrimmage are still a school record (by far, with Johnson coming in second with 59), and he also added a 25-yard touchdown pass as a junior.

Forsey earned our top spot, but there have been several other Idaho-born running backs worthy of recognition. One in particular, is well-known to football fans. Pocatello native Merril Hoge was a standout at Idaho State from 1984-87, and earned All-Conference honors three times with the Bengals before embarking on an eight-year NFL playing career, and becoming a longtime NFL analyst for ESPN.
