Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo top MLB jersey sales
By Colton Lowe
Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo have the two best-selling MLB jerseys since the Cubs won their first World Series in over a century.
To no surprise at all, the Chicago Cubs have dominated MLB jersey sales since their historic, come from behind World Series win last November. There’s bound to be some excitement when you end a 108 year title drought. Cubs World Series merchandise sales shattered records, so you’d expect jersey sales to follow suit.
In fact, four Cubs players made the top five. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo led the way at numbers 1-2, Javier Baez was at number 4 and Kyle Schwarber came in at 5. The only non-Cubs player in the top five was Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw at number 3.
Rounding out the top 10 were Mets’ pitcher Noah Syndergaard at 6, Dodgers’ Corey Seager at 7, Giants’ Buster Posey at 8, Yankees’ Gary Sanchez at 9, and the Angels’ Mike Trout at 10. Sanchez and Trout are the only two players from the American League in the top 10.
The list is based on jersey sales from MLBShop.com.
This is the second straight year for Bryant, who is only 25 years old, to have the best-selling jersey. Coming off an MVP season and a World Series title, popularity for the Cubs third basemen is at an all-time high.
Actually, the entire list is predominately made up of young, rising stars, which is a good sign for the future of the MLB. The average age of the top 20 players is only 26 and a half years old. Marketing these young players’ popularity will be key in the coming years for Major League Baseball.
