Who will win Game 5 between the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs?

After the first four games of the first round series between the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs, the series is split at two games each. It has turned into a best of three series, with the first team to win two games advancing to the second round. Each game of the series has been determined by one goal. Three of the first four games have gone to overtime. Game 5 on Friday at the Verizon Center should prove to be a very pivotal one in the series.

The Capitals have been getting off to strong starts lately in the series. In each of their past two games, they’ve gotten out to early two goal leads. Wednesday saw them jump out to a 4-1 lead thanks to goals from T.J. Oshie, Alex Ovechikin and Tom Wilson. However, the Caps have struggled to keep it going. They lost their two goal lead in Game 3, which might have been the wake up call they needed.

Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs will try to diagnose their issues. Even though they won Game 3, it’s never good to fall behind early. Frederik Andersen had a rough first period on Wednesday, allowing four goals. Auston Matthews, Tyler Bozak, James van Riemsdyk, William Nylander and Nazem Kadri lead a balanced attack that has given the Caps fits.

Prediction

Look for the Caps to take advantage of home ice on Friday. They woke up on Wednesday and have been getting out to strong starts. Wilson has given their third line a bit of a spark, something it desperately needed. Expect Holtby to lead the way as the Caps get out to a quick start and hang on.

Capitals win 5-3.
