Former Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is out for the Bulls in Game 3, but may still be attempting to help his team in a unique way on the bench.

Bulls point guard Rajon Rondo may be out with a fractured thumb for Game 3 of the first round, but he still has two good feet that he may be trying to utilize on the bench.

In Game 3 of Chicago’s series with the Celtics, Rondo appears to try and trip Boston’s Jae Crowder after Crowder shot a corner three near the Bulls bench.

The attempted trip wasn’t successful after Crowder nailed the shot, and we’ll never know if that was actually Rondo’s actual motive, but lifting his foot as Crowder attempted to step over seemed like an intentional move.

Rondo has plenty of experience dealing with the Celtics, as he started his career in Boston in 2006 and spent eight and a half seasons with the team. Rondo earned a ring with the infamous “Big Three” of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen in 2008, and also earned a trip to the NBA Finals with the team in 2010, before the group disbanded a few seasons later.

Rondo made headlines in Boston recently for his comments regarding Allen and the possibility of a team reunion in honor of the 10-year anniversary of the team’s NBA title. Rondo said that Allen wouldn’t be welcome at the event, after Allen left the team to head to Miami and to join forces with the Heat’s Big Three. Allen received heat from the team, especially Rondo, for leaving the roster to join the same team that defeated them in the previous postseason.

While Rondo has a history with the Celtics and their home city, he hasn’t been afraid to go against his former team. After his performance helped torch the Celtics in Games 1 and 2, he told teammates during Game 2 that the Celtics “gave up”.

While no one knows if Rondo really tripped Crowder, and maybe he will own up to it after the game, the point guard won’t be able to back up the move on the court as he is out indefinitely for the Bulls with his thumb fracture.
