The Washington Nationals have activated shortstop Trea Turner from the Disabled List on Friday afternoon, but he is not in the lineup just yet.

After hurting his right hamstring during the Nationals fifth game of the season, Turner has finally been activated from the DL and will be rejoining the team on Friday.

It was reported yesterday that Turner would be activated from the DL today after he spent some time rehabbing in extended spring training games, but he will not make his return to the lineup just yet.

Nationals manager Dusty Baker kept his word so far by inserting Wilmer Difo as the starting short stop for the team in tonight’s matchup with the Mets. It is a great sign nonetheless that Turner has been activated, and the speedy shortstop should be inserted back into the staring lineup sooner rather than later.

Turner had gotten off to a slow start so far this season by only hitting .158 in the five games he appeared in this season. Although he wasn’t making much contact, he still managed to accumulate three stolen bases in that time.

Turner took the league by storm last season after he hit for a .342 batting average, 13 home runs, and swiped 33 bases in only 73 games last season. He has shown the ability to be a potential five-tool contributor atop Washington’s dangerous lineup, and his slow start so far this season is nothing to worry about.

The Nationals currently boast a 10-5 record and sit atop the National League East standings, so they were able to manage without their leadoff hitter in the 10 games he missed. With that said, nobody on the Nationals is disappointed he is ready to rejoin the team.
