On Saturday, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will hit the field to play in their annual Blue-Gold Spring Game. The Irish are coming off a disappointing 2016 season, and their first-round quarterback left for the NFL Draft prior to his senior season. Their will be a new man under center in South Bend, as Brandon Wimbush will get every opportunity to win the job this spring, but he has a lot of work to do.
Josh Adams is expected to be the workhorse in the backfield for the Irish this season, and he has averaged 6.5 yards per carry during his career. With Wimbush starting his first collegiate games, it will be very important for Adams to be able to carry the load. He will have to nearly double his workload this season, and all eyes will be on whether or not he can be as productive with a full slate of carries.
Nearly every position is up for grabs for the Irish, making this Spring Game as important as any in the past few seasons. Many believed the Irish would be at least a .500 team in 2016, but inconsistency at quarterback really hurt them. As an Independent, Notre Dame will once again have a strong schedule, but they do have enough talent to at least be a bowl team this season.
