The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Joc Pederson on the 10-day disabled list due to a right groin strain.

The Dodgers placed outfielder Joc Pederson on the 10-day DL after he strained his groin. Pederson strained it during last night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Brett Eibner was called up in a corresponding move to help fill the void in centerfield left by Pederson. Los Angeles didn’t place him on the disabled list right away, but ultimately decided to take advantage of the new 10-day DL that was implemented before the current season began.

Pederson wasn’t off to a great start this season as he was sporting a .220 batting average, and only hit one home run in the 18 games he suited up for before he sustained the injury. Still, Pederson brings great power potential to the plate as he has socked a combined 51 home runs during his last two campaigns.

Dodgers’ outfielder Enrique Hernandez figures to pick up most of the starts in centerfield while Pederson recovers from his injury. Hernandez is a speedy outfielder who is off to a good start so far in limited action. He has hit two home runs, and driven in eight RBIs so far on the season to go along with a .286 batting average coming into tonight’s action.

The Dodgers have gotten off to a sluggish start on the season so far as they are currently 9-10. They will need to pick it up sooner rather than later, or they risk falling behind further in their division. The Colorado Rockies currently lead the NL West division with a 13-6 record, the Arizona Diamondbacks are close behind with a 12-8 record so far this season.
