The New York Giants are making sure Odell Beckham Jr. isn’t going anywhere for at least two more seasons.

With the deadline approaching for options to be exercised on rookie contracts, teams are trying to make smart decisions on if some of their young players are worth keeping. For the New York Giants, Odell Beckham Jr. happens to be one of those guys, and they have decided to pick up the option on his rookie deal.

If the Giants had opted not to do so, Beckham would have been able to enter free agency following the upcoming season. Now, he will play at least the next two years in the Big Apple.

This comes as no surprise for the Giants. Beckham Jr. has been nothing short of outstanding. He has eclipsed 1,000 yards in each of three seasons while also posting double-digit touchdowns in that time span. There is no debate to Beckham’s talent and production. He is among the league’s best, and to some, he is THE best in the NFL.

The biggest concern with Beckham are his antics on the football field. He has shown to be emotionally unstable at times, causing distractions for his squad with the New York media. The positives outweigh the negatives, but trying to harness No.13’s behavior has been difficult at times.

By the time Beckham hits free agency, he can be expected to command a boatload of money. If New York is going to want to retain him after his rookie contract, they’re going to have to be ready to pony up. The bidding war for the league’s top receiver by that time could be record breaking, and we know how some teams love to open up the check book in March. For now, Giants fans can sleep tight knowing that OBJ is safe for now.
