After the 2015 season, it appears the Giants were about to undergo a severe rebuilding process. Head coach Tom Coughlin resigned (was forced out) and most believed the same was coming from general manager Jerry Reese. Instead, Reese stayed and went all-out in free agency, signing Janoris Jenkins, Damon Harrison and Olivier Vernon. The result was the league’s best defense by the end of the year and an 11-5 record. Now, Reese has to fix an offense that struggled to both protect Eli Manning and run the ball.
New York is picking in a prime spot for offensive line this year, with the group being fairly weak. The Giants might try to move into the teens for the top lineman available, but if they stay here, look at Garett Bolles as an option. Bolles was a star in the Pac-12 with the Utah Utes and should help to fortify what was a porous line last year. Reese has shown a willingness to invest in the offensive line, taking Justin Pugh and Ereck Flowers in previous first rounds. He needs to triple down here and select Bolles, who should slide in opposite of Flowers (who needs to improve) and start from Week 1.
