The Packers have to improve this defense, or risk wasting the rest of 33-year-old Aaron Rodgers’ career. Rodgers is arguably the best player in the game, but has been saddled with a sagging roster. The weapons around him are ample and satisfactory, but the offensive line and defense needs upgrading. With the line prospects weak in this class, general manager Ted Thompson should look toward the defensive backs. Luckily for the Packers, no position group is stronger.
Thompson will have a bevy of options here, but Marlon Humphrey is the correct selection for a few reasons. Humphrey comes from a pro-style defense in Alabama, the same one that produced Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix. Humphrey has good size at 6-feet and 197 pounds, along with the ability to play both man and zone concepts. Green Bay was torched repeatedly in 2016, ranking penultimate in pass defense, only ahead of the Saints. Green Bay should spend multiple selections on the secondary this week, especially following the departure of Swiss army knife, Micah Hyde.
