5. Oregon State – Who wins the quarterback race?

While the Oregon State Beavers still finished near the bottom of the Pac-12 in 2016, they managed to pick up some conference wins and show a little improvement. Head coach Gary Andersen has kept things on an even keel and they’re hoping to finally return to a bowl game in 2017.

If they’re going to make it back to a bowl game and have a winning season, then they need to establish just who is going to be the starting quarterback. They have a trio of options with Marcus McMaryion, Jake Luton and Darrell Garretson.

Just as it is for every team that finishes near the bottom of a conference, no one should be considered a lock for the starting quarterback spot. The team doesn’t have to worry about rushing to a decision in the spring.

There will be plenty of time throughout the summer and fall to continue to gauge the situation. McMaryion and Garretson bring experience while Luton brings the intrigue due to his mammoth size. Oregon State has options.
