Agent: Jay Cutler not retiring
By Kevin McHugh
Jay Cutler still wishes to play football in 2017, per his agent.
About a month ago, there was a report stating Jay Cutler was planning on sitting out this upcoming season, but now it appears as though Cutler wants another opportunity to start in 2017.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Jay Cutler’s agent, Bus Cook, stated Cutler has no intentions of retiring.
"“Jay wants to play football,” Cook said. “He never has mentioned retirement to me. Jay Cutler, as far as I know, is ready to play and wants to play, and his skill set is as good as any quarterback in the league.”"
Drafted out of Vanderbilt, Jay Cutler was released by the Chicago Bears on March 9, 2017, following an up-and-down career with the team that acquired him in a trade with the Denver Broncos eight years ago. Cutler set Bears’ records in yards, touchdowns, and believe it or not, wins.
Unfortunately, Cutler also threw 109 interceptions over the course of his time with the Bears and was able to lead them to just a single playoff victory. Cutler’s play was inconsistent from week to week, and despite the Bears’ efforts to surround him with talent, he finished with an even 51-51 record as a starter in Chicago.

All things considered, Jay Cutler is still a talented enough quarterback to start in the NFL, but for some reason he has been unable to find work. It is possible Cutler will have to wait for an injury in training camp, as most of the NFL teams previously in need of a quarterback have looked elsewhere to fill the position.
