MLB Power Rankings: Top 30 stadiums of all time
21. Coors Field
- Year Opened: 1995
- Capacity: 50,398
- Defining Features: Mile High offense, Rox Pile, mountain views, purple seats to mark 5,280 feet
Every baseball fan knows Coors Field for its reputation as a hitter’s paradise. If 11-9 games are your thing, buy a ticket to a Rockies home game. Although efforts have been made to tamp down home runs with humidors, the ball still flies differently at 5,280 feet above sea level.
The architectural design of Coors Field is in line with the other retro-modern ballparks that were the style of the 1990s. It has elements of Camden Yards, but does seem to be too large for the market. The Rockies packed the stadium during their initial seasons, but have since struggled to fill the 50,00-seat stadium. The upper deck could have been scaled down to make a better experience for every fan.
The Rox Pile in deep center field is a fun installation that makes up for the fact that the jagged mountain peaks of Colorado have not been fully utilized in the design. The 20th row of bleachers in the upper deck mark the Mile-High point.
Coors Field, as you would expect from the naming rights, is home to its own brewery. The Blue Moon Brewery at the Sandlot is located behind the right field bleachers. Here the Coors Brewing company experiments with small batches of craft beers. This brewery has won numerous awards at beer festivals. Blue Moon was refined in this brewery, and is now one of the most popular craft beers in the country.
