A new gameplay trailer for Sonic Forces unveils the return of the iconic Green Hill Zone stage. We also get a look at the Classic Sonic mode.

For many years, the Sonic the Hedgehog series has been mostly irrelevant. You can say that the last great game that the fans actually enjoyed was Sonic Adventure 2, which in our eyes is the best Sonic game ever. That being said, Sonic Generations was a step in the right direction. Sonic ForcesĀ is looking to build off of that success. A new gameplay trailer showcases the return of the iconic Green Hill Zone, plus a look at the Classic Sonic mode.

As you may already know, there will be two ways to play Sonic Forces. You can either go back to the side-scrolling roots of the series or you can play inĀ the Modern Sonic mode, which is more of a 3D platformer. It all depends on what style you like best, and it’s always great to have the luxury to choose. So far, from what we’ve seen, this is shaping up to be the best Sonic game in years. We’re glad that Sega and Sonic Team are making all the right choices with Sonic Forces. They’re going back to its roots and ultimately, that’s what (usually) works.

Check out the gameplay footage below:

The new gameplay footage may seem very familiar. As you know, Green Hill Zone has become a staple in the Sonic series. In almost every entry, this stage is featured in one way or another, mostly as the first stage. In Sonic Forces, it looks better than ever. With the vibrant colors and the killer visuals, it’s looking like a ton of fun.

Next: Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite has an official release date

As of right now, even though the game looks great, we’re still cautiously optimistic about it. Like we’ve said, the series hasn’t been so great the last couple of years. We have faith that this will be a return to form, though.

Sonic Forces is scheduled to release in late 2017.
