25 best WWE Intercontinental Champions of all time
By Luke Norris
16. Jeff Jarrett
Like it or not, Jeff Jarrett has had one of the longest and most successful careers in wrestling history and that includes six different runs with the Intercontinental Championship. He won his first from Razor Ramon, who had held the title for nearly five months at the time, at the 1995 Royal Rumble and held it for 94 days before the title was vacated due to the controversial finish of a match between he and Bob Holly. A rematch was held a few weeks later for the vacant strap and Jarrett would go on to win that match, claiming his second IC title. He lost it 23 days later at a house show to Razor Ramon in a Ladder Match but at another live event just three days later, Jarrett would regain the title and held it for the next nine weeks, well … 62 days to be exact … before dropping it to Shawn Michaels at the second edition of the In Your House pay-per-view series.
Jarrett left WWE for the USWA for a few months following the loss but would return for a very short time before making his way to WCW for a year, winning the United States Championship during his time there. But despite WCW being the place to be at that time, Jarrett opted to return to WWE after his one-year contract expired.
After some decent programs for couple of years, Jarrett returned to the Intercontinental Championship picture and won his fourth title from The Godfather on an episode of Monday Night RAW in May 1999. He dropped it to Edge at a house show in Toronto but regained it less than 24 hours later only to drop it the very next night at Fully Loaded to D’Lo Brown in an Intercontinental Championship vs. European Championship match. He would win the rematch four weeks later to become the first-ever six-time Intercontinental Champion. His sixth and final reign would last 56 days before he famously dropped the title to Chyna at No Mercy, one day after his contract had expired. Jarrett showed up on Monday Nitro the very next night and has never returned to WWE.
