The Celtics and the Bulls have been jawing back and forth all series, but it was hard not to laugh at Robin Lopez’s horrible miss in Game 5.

Robin Lopez has been a key factor for the Bulls in the first few games against the top-seeded Celtics, and was a dominant piece of their two road victories in Games 1 and 2.

However, like Howie Day sang in “Collide”, even the best fall down sometimes. Lopez fell victim to an embarrassing moment in Boston in Game 5, as the Chicago center missed wildly on a floater from inside the foul line in the third quarter.

On the play, Lopez received the pass from Nikola Mirotic on Mirotic’s way to the basket, and Lopez had a clean look for some easy points. It looked like the Bulls center lost control of the ball on his way up, and his shot sailed over the basket, and out of bounds.

Lopez deservedly received the “Airball” chants from the Boston faithful as he made his way back to play defense.

The center isn’t new to funny moments from this heated first-round series, as he was caught messing with Celtics forward Jae Crowder’s shoe in Game 4 in Chicago. It’s unclear if Lopez was trying to retaliate in that moment by untying Crowder’s shoe for Crowder moving his, or if he was just hoping to help out his counterpart who had some loose laces.

The Bulls needed Lopez to be a big piece of their game in order to succeed in this series, and his performances in the first two games helped give the team the road sweep to open the round. In Game 1, Lopez recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and contributed big on the offensive glass to help the Bulls grab the win.

Chicago will need Lopez to find his touch if they have any chance of surviving this series, with Rondo on the bench and unable to help Lopez with his floater game.
