The Green Bay Packers will have eight picks in the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft. Here’s what they got and how they could use them.
The Green Bay Packers came up a game short of playing for Super Bowl LI last season. Green Bay nearly ran the table like franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers inclined his then 4-6 club. The Packers would go on to win eight games in a row, including two NFC playoff games.
However, Rodgers’ team would run out of gas against the Atlanta Falcons in the 2016 NFC Championship Game at the Georgia Dome. Green Bay didn’t have that extra gear to keep pace with the high-octane Atlanta offense.
Rodgers would go on to say during the post-game presser that Green Bay needed to reload, hoping that general manager Ted Thompson would accept his plea for help in free agency. Well, he didn’t really get that, as Thompson almost exclusively prefers to build his team through the NFL Draft.
For Rodgers and the Packers’ sake, let’s hope that Thompson can live up to his end of the bargain with a solid 2017 NFL Draft. Green Bay will have eight picks to hopefully make the Packers a better football team. It’s not easy to win in the draft picking late in each round, but that is the reality for the Packers football organization.
Round 1 – 29th overall
Round 2 – 61th overall
Round 3 – 93rd overall
Round 4 – 134th overall
Round 5 – 172nd overall
Round 5 – 182nd overall
Round 6 – 212nd overall
Round 7 – 247th overall
Green Bay could look to get better in several areas of its ball club. The Packers can’t believe that Ty Montgomery is the running back of the future. He wears a wide receiver’s jersey for crying out loud! Green Bay may need to grab a few pieces along the offensive line and almost certainly a handful of players to help out in the secondary.

Expect Green Bay to hit on the many of the mid-to-late-round picks it selects, as that is the Packers Way. It wouldn’t be shocking to see Thompson execute a few trades to move back and acquire a few picks. It is more likely that Green Bay will have 10 picks in this draft that less than eight.
